The All Party Parliamentary Dance Group is based in Westminster and works to promote dance as an art form and as an important element of healthy living and the fight against obesity,

February 2010 - The Future of Union Terrace Gardens:

There are currently two proposals for the future development of the Union Terrace Gardens area of Aberdeen City Centre.
The first proposed by Peacock Visual Arts Limited (PVA) and the second proposed by Sir Ian Wood and the Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Forum (ACSEF).
I recently arranged a public meeting to ensure that the public get a fair and balanced view of both proposals.  The meeting was held at The Citadel, 28 Castle Street Aberdeen on Thursday 18th February 2010.

I like to visit as many of my sheltered housing complexes as possible, as it is always very good for me to meet directly with my constituents. I was accompanied by Lewis Macdonald MSP and Cllr George Adam for this visit.

Riverbank Primary School - Tillydrone
I was pleased to have recently visited a group of my youngest constituents at Riverbank Primary School after receiving a number of letters from the children about their school.

The children were encouraged to contact me as part of Riverbank Primary School’s project to gain Right’s Respecting School status, which aims to encourage the pupils to develop as active and responsible citizens and is a part of the Curriculum for Excellence.

The pupils had some very forthright ideas and suggestions of how to improve the school.

July 2009 - Bangla Mela
I was pleased to attend the first ever Aberdeen Bangla Mela, which took place in Aberdeen on Sunday 5th July.

Organised by the local Bangladeshi community the festival was a belated celebration of the Bengali New Year and brought together the local Scottish and Bangladeshi communities.

Mela is the Bengali word for "village fair" and this is an event I can see will grow throughout the coming years. This Mela made an impact on all who came along and highlighted a rich culture by bringing together the very best of Asian culture, food and entertainment.
